Critical Reflection (Week 13)

Looking back on the past 13 weeks of classes in this effective communication module, I have achieved in having more confidence in public speaking and I have also improved my writing skills. I have learned more about the verbal and non-verbal languages that were taught in this module which helped in public speaking. Having peer reviews and feedback on my written assignments has improved my writing skills.

For the verbal language, I have told myself to use fewer filler words, articulate my voice better, use more transition words, and ask some rhetorical questions to engage my audience and have their attention on me. For the non-verbal language, I have tried to have more eye contact with my audience and to have good body language by not fidgeting and keeping my gestures naturally. I have improved my writing skills as there are peer reviews and feedback on my writing skills as well as feedback on my writing skills from my professor. There are also multiple drafts for my written assignments to refine the parallel structure, subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, word forms, and proper citation in my writing.

In my research project, I realized that communication is key and will lead to good teamwork. Having good communication in a team project, team members will be able to understand their tasks well and this results in good teamwork and a productive atmosphere, open and honest communication, and compassionate team members. This will also lead to having mutual understanding between one another in a team project. I have learned that with good communication, members in the project team will have fewer conflicts as we can compromise and agree with each other better.  I have learned that I must speak up and voice out my opinions more and to clarify any doubts that I have so that I do not hold the team back as a team project requires everyone to participate actively in a group environment. I have also learned that I and my teammates should communicate with our professor to clarify any doubts that we encountered so that we can know what are the required rubrics and what we should include in the group project.

From this project experience, I will be more proactive in initiating group meetings and discussions with my team members for my future group projects. I will make sure that everyone knows their tasks well and communicate with them in a friendly and approachable manner.
